11 Tips for Moving with Children

The decision is final now. You have approved the promotion and narrowed down the list of new prospective homes, and soon you will be moving.

The hardest part comes now — how to hire the professional & competent moving helpers, telling the kids and best moving company for preparing the reliable move . Whether heading out of state or just around the block, kids and teens are generally not excited about such an incident. 

They rarely, in reality, enjoy a change of this magnitude. Fortunately, to ease the process, there are several steps you may take.

Your moving attitude and your ability to let your kids share the experience can control their feelings. To make the move stress free as possible try following these,

1. Have a meeting with the family

Call a meeting for the family. For a casual dinner and lots of conversation, order some pizza and settle around the dining room table. 

Tell your kids you're happy about it if you're moving because of a promotion or a new career. Explain why you took it and how the whole family would be affected. Tell them how you feel when going around. Encourage them to share their concerns and feelings. 

It might be especially difficult if this is their first time traveling, since they are leaving their family home. Share your first-move experience with them. 

Let them know that you're going to depend on them during the move to help out, from packing to settling in to the new location.

2. Get reviews from the Kids about New Home

If possible, include your children in the selection process for the new house, especially if they're older. Get some reviews from the kids once you've limited options down to two or three houses.

If you are within a fair driving distance from where you are going, take them to see the homes. Show them pictures of each house, explain the communities in detail and, if you can, take a virtual tour online if you're moving to another city. 

Ask them to share about each house their three favorite items. When making the final decision, let them know you will take their comments into consideration. Keep them updated through the process after you've selected the home. 

If you know you've got the home, have a little celebration.

3. Before Packing, Wash

Let the kids know that the time to cut through the garbage is perfect now. There's sure to be a variety of items in the house that don't need to follow you to a new home. 

Have the children to help you go room by room around the house to decide what should go with you and what you should get hold of. Let them know that you don't want anything to be thrown. Holding those objects that carry valuable memories is OK. 

However, the toss pile should be closely considered for items—be they clothing, toys or electronics—that are no longer used. And you don't need to throw them out... you can sell them.

4. Start organizing a Moving Sales

Get the kids to help you plan a moving sale after you've worked out what you want to pack and what you want to remove. They will help you sort it out, arrange it, store it, and tag it and price it. Let them know that anything for the family will be used for the proceeds from the sale. Really, to decide about what it would be, you should have a family meeting and vote. 

It might be a giant flat-screen TV for the new home, or it might be a chocolate lab puppy. The more involved the children are in the target, the more helpful they will be in arranging the auction, whatever it is.

5. Explore the New Location

Try to learn about the new neighborhood, culture and town as much as possible. Share with your children what you find. You don't have to make it sound great; in the long run, truthful, matter-of-fact data would be most helpful. There's room for disappointment if you oversell stuff and lift expectations. Encourage the children to do research of their own. 

They can go online with your support and look up group and school Web pages. Copies of several local magazines and a weekend version of the local paper could also be found. You will hear about groups and organisations in the neighborhood, school events and sports, and other social and civic activities.

6. Set up room plans

Make room plans in order to get your children excited about the new home. You don't have to restrict yourself to their quarters only. If they are interested in helping other rooms in the house to organise and decorate, let them. To look at paint shades, take a ride to the hardware store. Take them with you if you are going to buy new furniture and the kids are interested. 

Set a budget for children and teens and let them handle their own rooms—choosing colors, sheets, rugs, and furniture. Encourage them to shop in stores for cargo and grocery. You should set a budget for younger children and work with them on following their vision. 

Then you should invite some family or friends over for a "big announcement" when it's all done, like they do on TV shows.

7. See a Review on the Website

If you can, take the kids for a visit to the new place. Planning to spend the day walking around the house and touring the new area if you're only moving across town. 

Then you can visit the public library's local branch and the school for each boy. You would still be able to do this if you're moving a great distance away, even if it only means beating the moving van by a few days and living in a nearby hotel. 

Make plans to see any additional facilities you may end up visiting, such as community theater or music school, in addition to touring the children's schools and the local library. You can even drive your kids to where you're going to work.

8. Host a Party 'See You Soon'

For any boy, one of the most difficult things about moving is saying goodbye to friends. By having a get-together with family, friends and neighbors, you could help to reduce the fear of this and call it a "See You Soon" party. 

Make sure everybody shares contact details during the party, and take pictures of your children with their mates. Between messaging, e-mails and phone calls, when moving to their new environment and making new friends, your children should be able to maintain old friendships. 

You could talk to your children's friends' parents about arranging a weekend visit or meeting somewhere halfway for a day visit, depending on the distance of your step.

9. Mapping the Move

Pull the GPS, maps and atlas out if you're traveling a few towns away or to another state. If you leave behind friends and family members you know you're going back to visit, this can be particularly helpful. 

Map out the moving path and find some fun locations to visit along the way and views to see. This will make the trip go faster, and for you and the child, it will be more engaging. Keep the maps handy for your destination when you arrive, too.

Get the children to help you prepare regular routes from home to school or from the house to the local park, mall or movie theater.

10. In The New City, be a tourist

For about a week, you were in the new home. The boxes are being unpacked slowly, but bit by bit, and you and the kids are beginning to settle into your new house. 

Now it's time for your new place to settle down. Purchase a guidebook for your new place, if there is one. Grab it and a calendar and sit down to schedule some fun trips around the area with the girls.

If you want to pick apples or strawberries at a local farm, visit the Natural Science Museum, or go cycling, horseback riding or sailing in the nearby state park, it's important to get your kids interested and show them what your new hometown has to offer. 

Encourage and child to bring a friend along on your outings if they have made any new friends in your neighborhood or at school.

11. Hire the friendly moving company

Last but not the least hire a friendly moving company. Make sure the helpers of that company have friendly nature and they should behave decent and in a friendly manner with your children. They will feel pleasant and relaxed with the friendly moving helpers.
